 Thanks to you all for your votes and comments. At the time I wrote this (last morning of voting), I might be in with a chance of a ribbon. :-) (ETA: Wooo!)

I have a slight confession regarding this. I did a fair bit of googling and wikipedia-ing between my entering this and voting and I was unfortunately unable to identify what this little creature is. I entered it in good faith thinking, in my limited knowledge, that is was some kind of aphid or greenfly.

Thanks to androgeus for his spot-on identification. It appears to be a baby bush cricket or tettigoniidae. These are still considered pests by commercial crop growers, according to wikipedia, so I feel vindicated (well only very slightly) in entering this in the challenge. I apologise to anyone who feels misled.

OMG! That is COOL! This is aMAZING macro photography -- most definitely award worthy whether or not he is a true pest of that flower :) Glad to find out he really is tho so you don't have to feel bad.

The two contrasting colors of yellow and green really make this an even greater shot. Your detail and the DOF giving emphasis to the cricket and some of the flower is also very nice. The blurred part actually forces you to the proper place of focus. I love it!
