He definitely has an unusual pose going! He almost looks like he's lit from underneath - those front feathers are almost glowing, which is really quite striking. I suspect scorewise folks didn't think a bird was all that unusual of an object. |

Fun hair-do and odd pose. Too bad the focus didn't come out sharper.
I have a lot of trouble getting tack sharp focus with my 70-300 lens too, unless I use a tripod. I am disappointed in the image stabilization, because wildlife is why I bought the lens, and I don't use a tripod for that. However my top rated photo, with a yellow ribbon, was taken with that lens using a tripod, so it is capable of good things. |

My eye keeps being drawn to the eye...but the facial area is out of focus...as is raised foot...which is really distracting. Plus, I think people were looking for something out of the ordinary, subject wise. |
