2nd trial at a HDR picture. Used the 'Automerge' function of Photoshop CS4. Got some very weird color artifacts in the water (saturated yellow, red,...). Therefore, my first trial was to desaturate all the water and use a blue color tint over it. Liked the look afterwards. Cloned out the remaining (now green) artifacts.

Still not perfect. There were loads of foliage and other greenery on both sides of the river. So I heavily cropped in order to concentrate on the mossy rocks.

The canyon in which this shot takes place is one of my favorite places on earth (a childhood playground). Now that we are not playing in there anymore, it seems indeed totally forgotten (at least the spots difficult in access). Very occasionally, some odd fisherman might appear, but else it's a mythical spot in an otherwise densely populated country. I'm still trying to get a shot from there which meets the expectations of my memories. It's not this one, but I hope the day will come!

Greetings from the Critique Club

I have never tried using photoshop for HDR, seems it is a useful tool as this does not look in anyway "cartoony".

However, as can happen with HDR/tonemapping programs, it does feel a little bit flat. The colours, which I believe at this time of year should be very vibrant, do not really pop. I think a boost a slight levels adjustment and a small saturation boost would have helped this immensely.

As far as the composition is concerned, I really feel as though it is very cramped. I notice now that Hotpasta commented to that effect also. I think it would have been very nice to see a bit of space vertically, perhaps so we see a bit more of the river bank.

Overall it's nice image that probably would have scored a bit higher with some very minor enhancements.
