I found this growing under a large bush in our garden - it must like the shade!

Although it looks like one of my Lensbaby images it isn't, the blur is caused by a narrow depth of field and me not shooting along the flower's Z axis.

I shot it at -1ev with a macro ring flash, played with the curve a little and then put in a neutral density gradient with the dark point bottom left - I then cloned in a little black top right and ran a sharpen brush over the tip of the flower.

It doesn't look over-sharp to me but as we know, I just don't know when to stop! So do let me know if it looks over-sharp to you.

Also, I have two monitors, supposedly identical with matched profiles but this image looks darker on the one I didn't use for editing (probably dynamic contrast at play); can you see the green stem quite easily? I hope so.

Like the shallow DOF and the vibrant blue. I can see the stem; it's not bright, but it's there enough to add to the composition.

Nice composition! I like the blues on the black background. Green stem visible for me, but vaguely. The blues seems to be a little over saturated, perhaps it's the flash.

I agree with jomari's comment. Also, great idea to use the macro ring flash.
