 Digital graduated filter added with Nik Color Efx Pro.
Some spots in the water removed with Spot Healing Brush
Basic editing otherwise- levels, hue/ saturation and Selective Color. Resize and Smart Sharpen. No crop. Some dodging on swimmer.
Disqualification Details
You may not use ANY editing tool to move, remove or duplicate any element of your photograph that would change a typical viewer's description of the photograph (aside from color), even if the tool is otherwise legal, and regardless of whether you intended the change when the photograph was taken.

This is so spooky. I'm guessing the darkness was applied in pp, since it seems the sun is at his back. Or it's a VERY bright moon...

Crisp, sharp with all technical aspects controlled and properly presented. From an artistic standpoint, the image feels overly tall and could have used a crop of the top - the large amount of blankspace detracts from the intent of the image as explained by the image's title. Under rated on the first ratings pass, this image is rerated from a 6 to a 7 for it's technical competance.

Good courage, I feel scared to get in open water when it's dark. This post could have been used for COURAGE as well...

A different image and not what I was expecting from this challenge. It appears that the swimmer is in broad sunlight, which makes the darkness in the top of the image seem out of place. I like the idea, but feel that the overall result does not have the overall impact that it could have.

one of my favorites of the challenge. it really speaks to me about the emotions evoked by darkness when referring to the vastness of the ocean. AMAZING capture of a very tangible concept.
