this is my second set of pictures using an off camera flash ever so i was a little nervous going into it. i originally wanted to take the picture in an open field but since i live in a city that's pretty much impossible, so i settled for the last flowering tree we have outside my dorm room. the flash was clamped to my umbrella pretty low (hence the angle) and at 1/16 power plus some sidelight coming from a lamp post outside a building to my right.

this was the last photo of the batch and it worked out perfectly and turned a abstract photo into a conceptual one for me. i really got a feeling of a modern day Buddha sitting beneath the Bodhi tree, enlightened. hence the title.

This is a unique way to light a shot. It's sort of like painting with light, but with the source in the shot. Composition is great, and I agree that not having the model's face in the shot is good. It's interesting that the tree trunk looks almost like a person with arms lifted.

By far the most creative shot I've seen in the challenge. While the highlights on the top of the umbrella are a bit hot, I think it's worth it for the awesome overall exposure you got. :) Also, great choice on the uber-colorful shirt! I think it really tied the shot together. 8 from me.

I wish it wasn't so obvious this was a photographic umbrella. I love the colors and the side light. Very nice. If you had more freedom with the editing I would love to see the support lines on the umbrella lightened or something. Still, very well thought out shot.
