Challenge: Green* II (Advanced Editing VII*)
Camera: Pentax K100D Super
Location: Dublin, CA in my backyard
Date: Apr 28, 2009
Aperture: f/2
ISO: 200
Shutter: 1/4000
Galleries: Nature, Still Life

Two bulbs in a planter box in my backyard (next to my wife's tomatoes, basil and parsley). No electricity running, just used levels and a gradient layer mask with a lowered white point to get the bulb to look bright.

I was actually hoping to do a tilt-shift edit for trees, but it didn't quite come out how I wanted. I definitely wanted to submit something for an advanced editing challenge... they don't come as often as I want them to!!!

Here's my tree outtake

Edits on this were-
Open, cloned out a leaf and white glob, lens blur, layers (with gradient), dodge and burn, add border and resize.

Shot on a Nikkor 35mm F/2 manual (wedged into my Kmount Pentax)

At first glance I really liked this photo. But then I noticed the distinct line at the edge of the blur and the streak in the upper right corner. I like the idea though. Seems like this was a good photo that needed better post processing.

Interesting juxtaposition of the old and the new energy efficient bulb, I especially like the concept of the old bulb being out of focus as if it's day is done. Nice work

Score 9: Simple concept so beautifully executed with such wonderful gritty textures and great shallow DOF. And such an unconventional composition too, which I like.

A lot of CFI's in this challenge. Sure hope we know what we're going to do with the mercury.

Interesting concept. Post-processing is a little sloppy, especially the front lower corner.

Clever title, nicely composed picture, just not sure I get why it's in the dirt.
