 I was distracted by this patch of tulips in the sun, with all these garden ornaments mixed in. I failed to see that the deep shade made a dramatic backdrop until I got home & started reviewing shots. This is a small crop from a bigger picture. How I wish I had seen this when I was there, at the time.

Thanks for your comments! Yes, the white tulips are blown. I can look to see if there is anything there to save. The strange thing is that it doesn't really matter to me that the white & black are clipped. I don't know why, it just doesn't. They float like strange lanterns above their stems, as if they were another kind of ornament, an ornament of light. Solar tulips.

Last Sat. when I was there most of the ornaments had been sold, most of the tulips were long past their prime, 'blown' organically. No do-overs on this one!

One thing I like about this one is how the front stuff is in sun, the back in shadow. Makes for beautiful light.

That is quite a collection of ornaments - very fun. Actually what I was drawn to was the pretty purple flowers at the bottom. The tulips almost appear like bright lanterns amid the creatures.

A very cute display. Maybe a bit overexposed, the whites of the flowers are blown. But difficult to expose properly given the dark background.

Quite a collection of ornaments! This was definitely a challenge in exposure with the mixture of white flowers, black background, and ornaments everywhere else in the range of lighting. The ornaments stand out nicely against the dark background, but the white tulips are completly blown out. I don't know how to overcome this difficulty other than to suggest possibly trying HDR.
