Don't even get me started on this, my wife and I both hate spiders, and even making these things freaked me out!

Where the red gel'd strobe is in the roof space, I kept haaving this feeling that when I stood on the chair to put it up there, I would look over the edge, only to find an army of real spiders crawling towards me like that guy in Aliens when he pops his head up into the roof!!!

AAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRGGGHHHHHHHHHH!

I like this shot - there was clearly a lot of effort put into the set-up and I can understand your disappointment. Nice use of a gelled flash.

In terms of what went wrong - my first thought would be that the title is slightly confusing - there is no door immediately obvious that you might be referring to. This leads to the next point that I'm not really sure where I should be looking here, there isn't really an obvious focal point. The fat spider is probably the most obvious point, but there are too many distracting details in the rest of the frame to really draw you into it. I feel that the bottom and right hand thirds of the shot could have been cropped out. Also (and please don't take this the wrong way) - the spiders do look very obviously fake and not really all that scary - I HATE spiders but these ones look quite cuddly. Hope this was helpful!

A very interesting view of how terror can be different things to different people. A good effective nightmare image.

LOL still had them from Halloween, didn't you. Scary enough for me, though I actually like spiders.
