I always have vivid nightmares that have to do with Cataclysm; the end of the world, or the end as we know it. My biggest fear is the wrath of Mother Nature and/or nuclear holocaust. I have lots of dreams that have to do with cyber-punk civilization gone wrong. We just depend on technology now to live, and its damaging the Earth. If our Ozone layer is depleted further; the Sun's solar flares will cause permanent power outages, bringing on dystopian living.

This building is part of Staten Island's infamous "Seaview Hosptial" I get lots of inquiries here on DPC whenever I post photos of this ghastly place for challenges. The 300 acre compound is fenced in, but is basically a local tourist attraction even though most of the buildings are structually un-stable. This is one of the buildings in the area that I never photographed before; and I advise that you never go to this place alone! Even though there are security guards walking the beat, they usually don't go into the buildings and there's always a few punk kids roaming around who like throwing debris, so brng a point and shoot and leave the expensive stuff at home!

*the resize hurt this image, it looks 10x better in full scale, lost lots of detail when saving for web.

*(For more images of this huge compound, feel free to check my Abandoned Buildings collection in my portfolio)

This is fantastic....I love photographing ruins of old buildings, primarily old churches, but I can't say enough about this shot....great indeed! Kevin

Critique comments from the club

They way the building goes full page top to bottom, adds to the dramatic larger than life effect.
Image in lower right 1/3rd looks like a body laying there also add to eerieness.
Black & white helps avoid any color distractions and keeps one focused mainly on building and the luring effect, boosting one need to come inside to take a look.
very well done desired a higher score IMO.

Very cool photo. I'm curious to know where it was taken. Love how the border makes it feel all horror-movieish.

This could very well be the setting for a Slasher type movie - it's a terrific conversion and it carries it's purpose over well to the challenge subject. Well done.
