 The Jimi Hendrix song is one of my all time favorite songs, I immediately thought of Fort Wadsworth for this challenge. I was going to name this after Pink Floyd's "The Wall" but realized that this is more than a wall.

Fort Wadsworth protected New York City's Harbor when it was built in 1663. It was British controlled up until after the Revolutionary war in 1783. It was then handed over to New York state control in 1806 until it was reverted back to Federal control during the war of 1812. The Fort was battle tested during the Spanish American war as well and was manned by the U.S military through the Civil War when it got its present name to honor General James Wadsworth who was killed in action. The fort was manned through WW1 and 2, and finally abandoned in 1994, when the NAVY handed it over to the National Parks Service. It has the longest tenure for active military bases.

I like this shot, but I think I might have liked it more if the strong, imposing shape in the foreground hadn't been in such strong shadows. My eye seems to want to veer to the left where the sunshine is.

I like the perspective although it's a bit dark in the middle. That's a neat old fort and is good for the song title.
