Thanks so much for all the great comments on this photo.
This is a grayband kingsnake - one of approximately 50 snakes in my collection. They are harmless and actually one of the calmest snake species I own.

His name BTW is Ronon.

I think that big leaf is a bit distracting but it's a really cool subject.

Beautiful snake - awesome color. I like the photo but wish there was alot more snake and alot less of that leaf. It is distracting and competes with the snake.

Less noise in the background would have helped to make this one a flawless photo (imho), please don't get me wrong, I like your photo, the details of the coloration and patterning are excellent.

Nice capture. I like the way you composed the subject with his head in the negative space [shallow depth of field area], it makes the texture of his head standout well.

Beautiful snake! Great colors, and I like the shape of his body as it curves down. Just a bit of loss of detail in the red neck area.

Nice DOF. Reminds me of the serpent who tempted Eve with the forbidden fruit.

Striking colour of the snake! I might have been tempted to tone down the green leaf a bit, it competes for attention with the orange of the snake which really should have centre stage.

A very nicely composed shot. And as they say, Red, Black, you're ok Jack. ;)
It's sharp where it matters, maybe needed a little extra selective sharpening on the orange section at the start of the head. Just to bring out more texture.

ah!! scary! excellent capture, this must have been very nerve-wracking. great color and texture in the snake, you even got a bit of bokeh in the background. all i would have done would be to burn the pupil a bit, to make it pop more.

eww. I hate snakes. But this one is well shot. I like the boring background for this eye-popping snake. The flawed leaf in foreground is distracting to me.

Oh he's beautiful! Not loving that spotted leaf on the left, but I probably wouldn't stick my hand out there to move it either. :P
