At first I dismissed this as just somebody in the dark, but realizing it's a blind beggar in the shadows gives this a deeper meaning. Excellent composition.

I wish I could see the face better. Interesting choice of composition with the dark and the light. I'm sure some people are telling you the guy should be on the rule of thirds or whatever, but I think the statement you made with the composition ala "hidden in the dark corner" is right on the money. Nice job. I first meant to give you a 6, but now that I have discovered your hidden genius in the composition I'm giving it an 8.

Very nice tonal range although i cant quite discern what the man is doing.
03/17/2009 08:29:12 AM
I like the shadows shrouding him.
03/16/2009 01:50:35 PM
not enough detail on your beggar
03/16/2009 12:12:52 PM
This has a sense of foreboding and hopelessness in it with the shadows, empty pathway and very old buildings. It's an emotional shot.
03/16/2009 07:54:50 AM
Beggar seems lost in the shadows.
03/16/2009 04:43:27 AM
Looks like a cool place. Great light and composition on the left side of the photo. Wish the right side, especially the blind man, had more detail and light.
03/15/2009 11:56:24 PM
nice entry
03/15/2009 10:33:06 PM
On my calibrated monitor, I can barely see the beggar. Maybe selectively brighten the darkest 2/3 of the photo to show me the details?
03/15/2009 09:32:56 PM
Good take in tough lighting situation.
03/15/2009 04:39:23 PM
Very moody shot.
03/15/2009 04:10:45 PM
this would look great in b/w
03/15/2009 01:51:39 PM
the person is too dark
03/15/2009 11:32:21 AM
Very dramatic capture, the contrast between light and dark along with the detail and textures makes it really interesting.
03/15/2009 08:04:57 AM
The light and shadow are nice here. The beggar in the shadow adds to the mood.
03/15/2009 06:21:01 AM
Wonderful use of light and shadow... 8
03/15/2009 02:53:14 AM
I feel this image could have been so much better if the beggar was more visible and not so obscured in the shadow. Difficult because you have the well lit section on the left which is what you exposed for. Might have been better to expose for the beggar and then work on the lighter part in editing or a flash could have worked here as well.
03/15/2009 02:49:16 AM
ok this could be nice but I really cant see that person properly.. sorry its too dark for my taste

regards ;D

Very nice work. Especially putting the beggar in the darkest part of the shot. It adds to the sense of his darkness.
03/14/2009 02:20:49 PM
I think it would help if the person was a little more lit because without your title, I wouldn't know the person was a beggar.
03/14/2009 01:43:22 PM
Interesting take. I had to look around a bit to see him, but I think it may add to what you're trying to convey. Good job.
03/14/2009 01:30:58 PM
I wish the beggar were more visible... if HDR is allowed, maybe try that next time...? 7
03/14/2009 11:53:37 AM
The cobble stone is really wonderful, but the greater area of the shot is in dark shadow and I can barely see the beggar. Especially with the highly contrasted background.
03/14/2009 08:57:32 AM
the subject is just a little lost imo, but it's a very moody shot
03/14/2009 06:43:24 AM
This looks like a wonderful shot, but it's so dark, you've lost a lot of detail. My eye is drawn to the very light part in the upper left, and while it's interesting I feel I've missed the most important part of the picture--the begger.
03/14/2009 04:54:52 AM
I think if you cropped out the bottom of the photo, this might be a stronger composition.
03/14/2009 12:40:02 AM
Although the light on the left is drawing all the attention, the beggar is a nice surprise in this photo.
03/14/2009 12:03:33 AM
good effort at handling the extreme dynamic range in this shot , 6
03/13/2009 08:08:25 PM
Good contrast of darks and lights, nice textures.
03/13/2009 07:58:22 PM
Your subject is the blind man, yet all the light in this image leads the eye to the other side of the picture, the beautiful texture on the stone street, the light beyond the wall and into the doorway. It's almost like you have two pictures in one here - the beggar, and the play of light - but together, at least to me, it is too much. I do love that texture on the street!
03/13/2009 06:20:15 PM
he is hard to see
03/13/2009 02:47:30 PM
Ive looked at this shot a few times now... and am not sure how to comment. I really like the beggar himself, and how the light falls on him. However, with the brightness on the top left, i find that it is competing for attention.
03/13/2009 12:52:18 PM
I can't see enough of him to find out what he's holding and it frustrates me a bit.

Not voting yet.
03/13/2009 08:50:20 AM
I like the deep DOF to minimize the subject's role in this image. The light on him is effective but I wonder if the bright area on the left is just too eye drawing.
03/13/2009 08:24:09 AM
The bright wall behind is too distracting and pulls your eye away from what I assume to be the main subject here.
03/13/2009 07:33:48 AM
I like this shot, but I would like to see the guy a little better.
03/13/2009 06:45:30 AM
i might have cropped this down to avoid having the bright sunlight in the same photo as the shadowy beggar. my eye is attracted to the sun, and i hardly notice the man. great texture throughout the photo, the cobblestone road and the stone wall add a feeling of rough and hard life
03/13/2009 04:22:57 AM
love the cobblestone road and texture of the walls
03/13/2009 02:46:10 AM
nice use of shadows in this
03/12/2009 10:03:55 PM
hidden gem indeed.
03/12/2009 09:08:57 PM
The amount of light that hits him make me wonder about how he'd see the world.
03/12/2009 08:18:20 PM
great story line.
03/12/2009 01:15:33 PM
I like the texture created by the stone walls. However, the shadows seem too dark to see the blind beggar. Also, I don't really like the over-light part on the left. Maybe a closer crop to just include the wall directly behind the beggar would allow you to lighten it up a little bit in order to see more of his features.
03/12/2009 08:36:44 AM
Mysterious alleys leading to uncertain futures.
03/12/2009 08:34:08 AM
Nice story. Good detail and lighting.
03/12/2009 07:27:56 AM
Nice contrast between the dark and the light. I would like to see just a bit more detai in the shadows but nice job overall.
03/11/2009 09:32:09 PM
Down in the shadows, interesting to make us look for the subject.
03/11/2009 09:03:07 PM
I'd get a little closer to the man if you are gonna make him the title of your piece! He is rather anonymous right now!
03/11/2009 07:43:21 PM
The blind man in the shadows... very nice touch, sad, but lovely.
03/11/2009 06:40:16 PM
Tough lighting to work with - you did well.
03/11/2009 04:56:11 PM
need some light on the beggar
03/11/2009 02:55:05 PM
I wish I could see the man and not the background
03/11/2009 01:33:41 PM
I quite like the symbology of having the blind beggar in the dark, with the light just beyond him and teasing every so slightly across the stones.
03/11/2009 08:02:05 AM
too bad the focus is not really on the beggar, and he is too dark in the shot.
03/11/2009 07:39:00 AM
Where is this? looks like a very cool place. The way you've chosen to keep the light the way it is, is a brave choice. I quite like it
03/11/2009 01:01:34 AM
look like a movie set..nice lighting
03/10/2009 09:22:35 PM
Good pic but a little dark especially the subject
