This is a very funny picture and title. Is this you or a friend?
03/17/2009 01:05:35 PM
Goober is as goober does.
03/17/2009 10:31:12 AM
If the face/eyes were sharper I think it would pop more, the lighting looks really nice.
03/17/2009 05:19:48 AM
Looks like a cheerful guy. I wish the lighting were better though, he is rather dark compared to the background.

a little soft, but best treat the tender sore redneck with care.
03/16/2009 06:29:00 AM
sorry this is just one from me and I can explain. first please bear in mind that this is just my senseless private opinion and Im amateur anyway.
then I will say that in my opinion its too dark and its not sharp too ... looks to me just liek some kind of snapshot of your friend and I wouldnt mind but is it enough for this challenge and is it really your best?
only thing I can see is bw conversion and its too gray too so.. thats basically why,

take it easy and good luck to you ;D

Photo seems a bit soft but it's a cute snap.

I like the expression, but the background and foreground is out of focus.

Don't take this the wrong way but as I see DPC as a learning experience here is my frank critique:

This comes across as a snapshot. By that I mean that I feel that anybody standing where you were with a camera could have gone click and got this result. I think a photographer should aim to do more than that. I may be wrong and perhaps you do have more of a story to your shot but the fact is that it doesn't come across to the viewer.

As an example, if you were in Paris and saw the Eiffel Tower you could hold the camera and go click. You'd have a shot that millions of other tourists have and would be good as a record of your holiday. I think at DPC you need more than that. You need to consider the POV - make it something that enhances the tower (include a flowerbed or kissing couple in the foreground), make use of lighting (dusk for shadows), composition (maybe include the buildings beside it to get a sense of scale).

I hope this helps and please don't be offended, I'm only offering an opinion.

Good composition, and your subject looks like he would be a fun guy to hang out with, but it just seems a bit flat to me, and the eyes are kinda swallowed in darkness.

Fun expression. I sense a sentimental favorite in this shot :-)

Cute photo, but I wish there was a little more light on his face, and less in the background.

I would recommend a little fill flash to lighten the facial shadows and provide better catchlights in the eyes at the same time use an exposure setting to underexpose the background more. I would also crop off the top to remove the excessive bright areas.

I find the background too busy.

He he cool photo. This is a great shot to keep up at work to keep a smile on your face.

03/11/2009 07:55:42 AM
Wow, where to start....on the good side, fun candid. But this shot needs COLOR, sharpening, better cropping and/or subject positioning, better background and better lighting. All that being said, I'm sure it's someone who is meaningful to you and therefore the shot is meaningful.

Looks like a nice friendly bloke. I like the curl in the forehead, There was a little girl, who had a little curl right in the middle of her forehead. And when she was good, she was very very good, but when she was bad she was horrid.! :)
