Grand, beautiful architecture, but the composition is a little too straightforward for me to really get into it. |

Nice colorful sky but the half shaded billboards ruin the composition. |

Interesting building, with the spires. Great blue sky for contrast. |

I'm not sure how interesting this is with a fourth of the building covered up with signs... and I'd rather have seen it shot directly from the front, or more from a side. If you're going to break a rule, smash it to smithereens so it doesn't look like an accident. *grin*
The colors are good.

Did you climb up to the roof? I'll never forget the view from there for as long as I live! |

This is a nice looking building, and at a larger size would probably have more impact. However, for this viewing, it may have been more effective to have less of the surroundings showing and more of the building. |

Wow that's an impressive church. I have to say that the shadows and the big signs don't do anything for the photo, though, maybe just focusing on the top part of the courch would have been better and more interesting. |

Great building! Might have been a little better without the shadow running through the picture. |
|
|
03/15/2009 07:33:50 AM |
This would have been a nicer photo if you had cropped out the billboards and focused primarily on the top of the building. It could be a bit sharper also |

Don't take this the wrong way but as I see DPC as a learning experience here is my frank critique:
This comes across as a snapshot. By that I mean that I feel that anybody standing where you were with a camera could have gone click and got this result. I think a photographer should aim to do more than that. I may be wrong and perhaps you do have more of a story to your shot but the fact is that it doesn't come across to the viewer.
As an example, if you were in Paris and saw the Eiffel Tower you could hold the camera and go click. You'd have a shot that millions of other tourists have and would be good as a record of your holiday. I think at DPC you need more than that. You need to consider the POV - make it something that enhances the tower (include a flowerbed or kissing couple in the foreground), make use of lighting (dusk for shadows), composition (maybe include the buildings beside it to get a sense of scale).
I hope this helps and please don't be offended, I'm only offering an opinion. |

A beautiful sky and amazing structure. I feel the lighting and shadows are a bit harsh, and the billboards are an unfortunate element. |

Sky looks lovely and the shadow coming across helps keep the other stuff in the shot at bay. The whites and textures on the walls look great. Don't think you have captured this at a better time of day. Beautiful! |

Wish this was more dead-on, and maybe with come of the bottom cropped off where the crowds are. |

Looks old, but the billboards suggest it is newly built. A historic restoration, perhaps? |
