This is the same owl that has scored my personal best on DPC, the other shot was a closeup.

I had a difficult time choosing what to submit for this challenge, but I kept coming back to this owl - Milo.

Another shot of Milo gave me my highest score to-date.(6.7)

I had similar hopes with this one. Those hopes were quickly crushed once voting began.

This was another option:

This was taken at the British Wildlife Centre in Lingfield, UK during the summer of 07.

It was not a wild bird and I had to clone out that shackles on the legs. He was brought out for display during one of their "Photography Days" when the park is only open to photographers, who get access to the animals.

OK, my one mission this year is to capture a picture of a wild barn owl. Now if this is a wild one (and I am assuming the fact it has no leg ring or jesses) then it is a great capture. Nice exposure but would of benefitted from a tiny bit more contrast and maybe a bit more sharpening. HOwever good shot overall even if it is a captive bird.

Revised vote = 6

Lovely shot.

Beautiful owl! I think with a bit more PP, this could be an outstanding image. A tighter crop, a bit more contrast, levels and usm would make this good image great!

03/14/2009 05:11:01 AM
Lovely owl. Ideally, it would be best not to have the tree in the background.
03/14/2009 02:21:28 AM
So very nice! It will do well!
03/14/2009 01:28:04 AM
watch out for the background, in this case, too much of a distraction

great shot
03/12/2009 08:12:12 AM
Image seems soft. BG is distracting. Some PP work and a different crop would help. Nice capture of a barn owl.

Very nice.
03/11/2009 06:49:47 PM

There is something magical about owls. Great shot.
03/11/2009 06:13:29 AM
techically OK shot, but the light was not on your side that day, too flat, no highlights in the eyes
03/11/2009 05:23:51 AM
The crop would be a bit more tight. Some sharpening could help as well. Very nice shot overall.
03/11/2009 04:13:51 AM
Nice closeup shot.
