Challenge: Hidden Gem -- 1,000th Challenge! (Advanced Editing VII*)
Camera: Samsung GX-10
Location: Dominican Republic
Date: Aug 27, 2008
Aperture: f5.6
ISO: 140
Shutter: 1/180
Galleries: Portraiture, Children
Date Uploaded: Mar 8, 2009

On a tour of the Dominican Republic interior, we encountered this girl and her village school friends; the trip was to benefit her school. Although cliched, I feel the image oozes "rich and poor divide". I asked the girl for permission to take the shot, and showed her the result which put a big smile on her face!

Excellent portrait. Her eyes are very expressive and the section of barbed wire she is clinging to ads the feeling that there is perhaps a poignant story here. 7
