This is my eldest son, Conor. He was watching TV and totally engrossed in it. The lighting is natural light coming from the large ranch-slider door. As far as portraits so I think this is one of my best.

Composition is a bit poor IMO but when I shot this I was really just playing with the 50mm lens so I didn't think too much about framing. No doubt the fact Conor is centred in the frame will count against me.

I really like the shot and have a large copy on our wall. I realise the voters won't be quite so "attached" to it as I am but I hope that doesn't reflect in the votes too much.

Enough of that, let's have some score predicitons:
Realistic score: 5.5
Make me happy score: 6.0
Over the moon score: 6.5
I'm quitting DPC score: 5.0

[Mar. 15th, 2009 07:34:10 PM]

Noise you all say? Well if I open Adobe Gamma and look at a DPC page with those little bars and set it right I see...lot's of noise.

So I have to blame myself for having my monitor setup wrong. :(

Well crap, if that's how people feel about a wee bit of noise, I'm going down big time in the March fs. Oh wait... I'm probably brown toast any way, lol.

Heh, you should have said the noise was deliberate, you were going for the arty high ISO film grain look ;)

I almost wonder if the eye focus should be reversed, with the lighter eye and cheek being in focus? My eye is drawn the to the blurry part by the lighting.

Great lighting, such a curious look in the eye, I wish both eyes popped as nicely as the nearer one.

Great candid. The youngster is definetly focused on what he is watching. Nice choice with the black & white too.

I wish there was a little more DOF, the OOF eye takes away from this image IMO.
