 This is the old Dome which sat atop the Emporium in San Francisco, a trendy store of its day, after it was rebuilt following the 1906 earthquake. Construction was completed in 1908, so that makes it just about 100 years old, and a perfect fit for this challenge.

The Emporium building was torn down about 5-10 years ago, but the dome was saved and put in place atop a new shopping mall that rose in its place on Market Street below Union Square. I shot this during lunch one day this week with my portable P&S ... hoping this image is one that finally allows me to break 6 with that camera ... its a little soft in the upper left, so that might keep it in the 5s, but hopefully it'll be a high 5 at least. (After a string of uncharacteristic sub-5 performances with that unit, I may be asking too much ... but I really like this image and hope it does well.)

Excellent capture and very pleasing to the eye composition. Lovely intricate design radiating outwards from it's center. Nice fine detail. 8

i like how the dome is off center. certain things look good in the center and certain things look alright in the center and this looks good off balanced.
