Was this taken from the base of the lighthouse? I was there last year (My Dad lives there).. Interesting place.

The softness on the row of houses hurts this other wise very effective shot. 7

Love the lighting highlights on the white row of buildings with red roofs. The structures at the top of the hill are tantalizingly interesting.

a little over processed IMO, the halo between sky and earth is a little distracting.

The HDR-like treatment of this image is a little too heavy for my eyes - IMO the scene would benefit from a more delicate application of this editing style.

A lovely scene, I like all those red roofed houses along the hillside. The HDR is a bit overdone for my tastes but I am not a fan of HDR.

Houses are over exp. Darker would do fine.

Beautiful landscape which I don't feel needed to be so processed

One of my favourite places! I like this composition, and the tone-mapping works well to bring out the sky as well as the land and water. It is a bit of a shame that the colour of the cottages on the harbour side has been leached out, as that is one of the aspects of Whitby that i find most charming.

Good pic but I would've liked to see more in focus.
03/12/2009 03:49:48 PM
The lighting has a very unnatural feel.

The post on this works well for the clouds but a lot of the light depth of the sky is lost. The overall depth works well here but the composition leaves this viewer wanting...

Whitby is heritage, so there's a point just for being Whitby. Magnificent foreboding sky, too. Just a wee bit of that HDR/painted postcard look hits me...

Perhaps another composition with something more dominant as the subject. Perhaps a rule of thirds composition? Great processing and light, though.
