Teahouse in an imperial garden in Tokyo. I'm not sure how popular this is going to be. Certainly this isn't the most technically perfect photo I've ever taken, but I like how it shows the contrast of Tokyo, both ancient and ultra-modern at the same time.

Cool reflections of buildings we can see.
03/17/2009 02:12:49 PM
My initial look at this was it was just OK. Then I read the title and then saw the reflections and it my reaction was WOW that's neat. I like it when photos trick me like that.
03/17/2009 01:06:00 PM
Great concept!
03/17/2009 12:15:55 PM
Whoa, great juxtoposition there, this is a very clever and well executed shot.
03/17/2009 12:25:43 AM
Great pic, shame the water was a little wavy or this would have been even better that great.
03/16/2009 09:59:54 PM
Fantastic. All the more intriguing for seeing the new only in reflection.
03/16/2009 07:13:40 PM
Terrific! I love how this is not contrived, but wish for a bit warmer in tone.
03/16/2009 05:11:28 PM
That is cool how the buildings reflect, but are not visible. Good capture.
03/16/2009 05:01:57 PM
Nice contrasts on this.
03/16/2009 12:20:51 PM
you really have to work your imagination on this one...very nice...good colors...might try levels just a bit more
03/16/2009 11:06:07 AM
What a great perspective shot! The confluence of the new reflected in the water and the old on the shore is great!
03/16/2009 10:53:40 AM
The reflection in the pond throws you off. Good pic though.
03/16/2009 08:05:02 AM

03/16/2009 02:10:52 AM
Very cleverly captured.
03/15/2009 10:47:42 PM
Awesome capture and presentation. Gorgeous. How cool are the reflections!
03/15/2009 09:52:45 PM
intresting idea, but the water needs to be calmer to get a better reflection
03/15/2009 08:38:08 PM
Whoa, really cool effect. I like how you combined Old and New through the reflection.
03/15/2009 04:42:26 PM
I like how the reflection contradicts the scene.
03/15/2009 03:54:55 PM
Great concept, maybe brighten it up a bit
03/15/2009 11:58:52 AM
I wish the building had just a tiny bit more headroom but I'm assuming the treeline ended right where you shot it (seems that way in the reflection). Nice idea and well captured.
03/15/2009 07:41:19 AM
I might have brought the crop up to remove some of the over exposed water. jmo
03/15/2009 06:16:15 AM
What a wonderful composition showing the reflections of the modern buildings in the water, good eye.
03/15/2009 05:24:53 AM
The perfect crop... subtle, and may not do well with voters, but interesting.
03/15/2009 05:09:11 AM
You really do have to take your time with this image, read the title and take in what it offers. When you do you have a thought provoking and interesting photo, if you don't tqake a little time I fear you would just skip on by. Nice photo and great use of reflection. COuld have done with a tad more punch as the colours/light is a little flat. Well done and good luck for the rest of the challenge.
03/15/2009 02:15:26 AM

03/15/2009 01:05:13 AM

03/14/2009 09:20:42 PM
There seems to be a lot in this challenge, the composition is good, but the lighting just comes across as very bland.
03/14/2009 05:37:23 PM
what a dichotomy - great shot!
03/14/2009 03:17:03 PM

03/14/2009 02:30:48 PM
Interesting contrast of lines and textures.
03/14/2009 10:30:30 AM
The dichotomy was well spotted.
03/14/2009 06:35:03 AM
Excellent POV, using the reflection in this way is really creative. Congratulations!!
03/14/2009 04:34:05 AM
The contrast between the simple structure in a park setting, and the reflections of the towering city behind is really nicely captured. I like it!
03/14/2009 01:37:32 AM
interesting presentation, I would have cropped off more of the bottom
03/14/2009 01:13:32 AM
Nice view and composition with only the reflections of the new buildings.
03/13/2009 02:46:11 PM
How cool, love how the reflections have worked out

03/13/2009 04:45:04 AM
Very natural looking colors. Love the ripples and the birds. Good crop to.
03/13/2009 04:03:00 AM
Great angle. Like these shots where the origin of the reflection cannot be seen. Objective here well achieved.
03/12/2009 11:32:28 AM
This would be really cool to see this at night too.
03/12/2009 10:32:15 AM
Great shot. The title tells all.
03/12/2009 09:27:44 AM
almost whizzed by this, LOVE the subtelty of the reflections contrast! nice catch! I'm going to give you a 10 to make up for the many people that will not even notice.
03/12/2009 08:59:36 AM
wonderfully captured reflections of the new building in great contrast to the old. very well presented
03/12/2009 07:19:54 AM
i liked the idea of having the new buildings in the reflection. i would suggest increasing the saturation a bit.
03/12/2009 07:10:08 AM
has a cool feel to it.
03/12/2009 07:03:18 AM

03/12/2009 03:27:00 AM
Clever composition.
03/11/2009 10:31:08 PM
Nice idea, I'd be keen to know if including the buildings as well as their reflections added more impact
03/11/2009 09:59:14 PM
fantastic concept
03/11/2009 08:13:36 PM
clever
03/11/2009 07:10:29 PM
Great composition. Had to do a double take on this one! Although I think a different time of day would have brought out more colors. It seems a little flat. Still very creative. Good eye.
03/11/2009 06:14:41 PM
Great use of reflection to make the modern seem surreal while the old ways endure in reality.
03/11/2009 05:43:40 PM
Great juxtaposition, I nearly didn't see the reflection, doh!
03/11/2009 03:37:02 PM
I like the reflections in the water - nice shot.
03/11/2009 02:40:19 PM
Nice find with the high-rise reflections.
03/11/2009 12:56:53 PM
Good thinking, I like the idea a bunch!
03/11/2009 12:23:53 PM
very sneaky, wish the water was calmer
03/11/2009 09:11:04 AM
Nice use of capturing contrasting styles..... good eye for seeing it.
03/11/2009 08:42:58 AM
Nicely observed (I wish the light was more dramatic)
03/11/2009 05:33:34 AM
neat effect.
03/11/2009 04:22:15 AM
pity the highrises werent in the image too would have been a nice full reflection capture
03/11/2009 01:47:52 AM
are the buildings reflected behind that grove of trees or behind the photographer?
03/10/2009 10:21:36 PM
Very very clever idea, but I don't think you've pulled it off, sorry. If you can, I'd definately work on that though, there's a brilliant image just waiting in there, well spotted.
03/10/2009 09:10:13 PM
I have no idea how you got this...is this a merge?
