On the contrary, you've taken a nicely composed, sharp and intriguing photo of a toilet paper roll. Sorry, but you'll be pretty far from the brown = ) PS I have no idea if I spelled intriguing correctly and do not plan to google it. |

Good thing you explained what you meant. I was going to comment that you chose the wrong time looking at how much paper is left on that roll. Terrible time to be caught short.
Ps. I think your shot's too good and wont win the brown. Good composition, nice rule of thirds, good contrast and detail and correct exposure. Little bit of vignetting in the bottom corners. |

I don't think you will achieve that dubious honour with this effort. You would need to disregard the 640x480 pixel format, go for something really small & preferably really soft on the focus if in focus at all. This is the 1062nd entry I have come across & it is not that bad. What's more you have a humours title as well. |

technicals are a tad too good to be truly 'brown'; for reference, I've always found this to be a master brown-ribbon winner: //www.dpchallenge.com/image.php?IMAGE_ID=461867

The depleted roll, though aptly supported by a title likely to appeal to the DPC faithful, presents the viewer with a visual metaphor of the current economic climate - depleted and frankly, already down the pan. The roll holder itself, not flush with the wall and looking badly made, offers us great insight; for it, like the world economy, has never really been secure has it? - with this image you show us that while the roll was full of fluffy softness, this fundamental flaw was concealed behind paper.... how clever, the depth of your metaphor reveals the depth of your photography genius - I see it now, the toilet paper analogous with the worthless financial paper which represented so many pyramidal derivatives and hedge fund betting slips. And the final twist, how cleverly you communicate it - we are left knowing, truly knowing, that in the end the roll was bound to run out!
Pure genius! Such vision.........
(......but a crap photo - I give it a 1!)
(Who am I to ruin your bid for the noble brown?!!!) |

I think this is a better photo than you give yourself credit for, I like it. Nice composition and use of negative space. The empty roll also tells a story which we have all experienced at one time or another :( and the B&W works well. Either that or you were being ironic! Good luck whatever your goal for the challenge is! |

You were never going to get anywhere near the brown with an image this good. I love the minimalism of it, yet it has detail and sharpness which can keep the viewer looking for much longer than one would expect of an image like this. Sorry, but my vote will do nothing to help you get brown this time. |

You know, if the 'brown' is what you were going for, keep it out of the title. Without that I would view this differently - a new twist; need, desperation, a 'situation.' However, I view the picture on screen with the title and all I can say is...'huh.'
I like the composition and position of the subject/composition. |
