On my way back from a meeting, I exited off the highway because of traffic, and took a road that runs along the lake. As I drove along, I spotted this scene. NOW I know why I always have my camera with me. I pulled over and took a few shots of this scene. It was very humid, and sunny, but the lake was covered in this light fog. Normally you can see clear across this lake, but that was not the case that day.
Shot using my Sigma 70-300mm APO @ 119mm in RAW format.
POST: FVU to develop in TIFF 16-bit. Slight (-0.5) exposure compensation. In PS7: 10D sharpener action, very slight crop, converted to greyscale and then made into a tri-tone, levels, cloned out a bird of in the corner, resized, USM, and inner glow border (with a little noise factor).
I originally MOVED the bird, as it actually added alot to the composition when placed over the island, but determined that that would be against the rules. Perhaps not, but I did not want to take the chance. I will add the bird (maybe a few) back when I make this into a print.
I think this photo has a very eery feel to it. Once again, I like this one alot. Let's see what the voters have to say about it.

This reminds me of the images I made in high school doing brush on emulsions. I still have a Van Dyke brown stain on my favorite shirt. Excellent center composition and i love the way the image bleeds off the canvas. 8 |

Simple and beautiful. I don't like the faded border really though. I do very much like the centeredness of the island, and I think that focus and clarity are good. I like how the island reflects in the waves of the water. I like how the island just kind of comes out of the whiteness. Very nice find. ~Heather~ |

I like this picture, prolly more than I should! I would like there to be some more midtones, but the image really pops for me. |

I could be wrong, but the sides of the image look somehow blurred more than the rest of the image. I like it though ... 8 |

I like the use of whitespace at the sides...creative idea for a pseudo-border! |

Has a quality almost of Lartigue, and of the early experimental photographers - Fox Talbot's leaf image springs to mind. kind of works here, though I'm not sure that it will for those with less knowledge of the history of the medium. |

This is absolutely beautiful. Great choice to use the sepia tones and I don't care what anyone else says about the framing, it makes the shot! IMHO, of course. Well done. Good luck. |

I really love the composition. It's simple, yet very rich in detail. |
