Sorry, man, preservation is not my thing. Both of these apples rotted away. |

First time I see this. It's beautiful. Do you still have it? I carve apples too, and potatoes, pumpkins, etc. |

Okay, so I knew this was yours, but it is a horse of an entirely other colour. It haunts me, it reminds me, and I wonder what the other months feel like. The mouth, the mouth, the mouth. The glazed coffin of skin. |

Oh dear. This scored over a 6 and the commenter average is out of the ball park. What has happened? AND it's a cool shot. Wrinkly and fits the challenge month selected. I think I'll work on my bucket list - the world is rapidly approaching a sooner-than-we-thought demise.... |

you should do a whole calendar of carved apples. I think the ISO added some beautiful textures. Great piece! |

That was creative. I don't feel like eating that apple tho... Would've fit nicely in some form of art calendar perhaps. 8 |

I suppose I should make a wisecrack about the "bottom of the barrel", but that would be unworthy because this is unquestionably the best entry. I thought briefly of Mt Rushmore, but it's better than that (if on a less heroic scale). Perhaps The Scream is closer to the mark? Or it could be Count Orlok, I suppose. Whoever it is, it's going to keep the doctor away. I know I'll not feel comfortable biting into a pippin for a while. |

Is there a copycat in the house, or has the master reprised his apple entry? Either way this is a masterpiece of apple carving and photography. |

I can imagine this as Posthumous' shot. A bit late for the apple challenge? Anyway, great subject, but lighting could be enhanced. Bumping you slightly up to 7. |

Gravity gets us all eventually...
The processing/color choices makes me think this might be Skew's. I particularly love the eyes and the artist's sig at the bottom right.
Exceptional. |

Front page stuff for me! Just awesome. Great prep and execution. Terrific lighting and contrast. The wrinkles and sheen on the skin is killer. |

a wizened apple, was this an accident or did you carve it out then let it dry out...great shot |

This is not a nice image, and I'm saying this in a good way. Extraordinary powerful expression coming out of a decaying apple. He seems peacefully angry (if that's possible). I like how the lighting supports the image, and the slight slant gives it a nice touch (oops, I said nice).
(not voting, but I do fave) |

I've been starting at this photograph for a good 10+ minutes now and it is still just as beautiful. At first I didn't really like the post-processing on this, but it is actually beginning to grow on me. The lighting is wonderful. This image brings out so many thoughts that I have yet to formulate into words. Needless to say, I like this. |
