 DPCO4 week two - team globetrotters.

my orgingal idea didn't pan out as planned - so i went with my second one.

the idea here was to puzzle the viewer into how the photo was done, and also play on the perception of scale ( tiny little flower pot - large flower ).

i took a gerbera daisy, and cut the stem into sections. i used two pieces of black foam core ( one behind, one below ). i poked toothpicks into the flower pieces and then into the foam core.

one light ( 430ex ) from camera left bounced off silver umbrella ( 1/2 power ), and one light ( 550ex ) from camera right - undiffused at 1/64th power. i tried to minimize the light falling on the the background, and tried to minimize shadows from the toothpicks. but in post i deepend the blacks and masked out the subject. fine tuned the color, and dodged the flower head a bit to try to make it pop out. i also cloned out a few dust specks and scuz where the two foam boards came together.

as an aside, while editing the first shot our crazy kitten had my set up - and sort of ruined any second take on the same theme. well at least w/o starting from scratch.

hope to score decent mid 6's would be sufficient.

Beautiful, simple, subtle, I love this. The colors and lighting are fantastic. The subtle inclusion of a puzzle is great. Stunning.
