Everytime I have crossed this bridge, I have thought what a neat photo this would make, with downtown rising behind the trainyards. Finally got around to doing it. There is not any real sidewalk across the bridge, however, just what would be considered a wide curb, with heavy traffic passing by. I'd love to do this shot at night, but there is not enough space to safely set up a tripod. I'm pretty pleased with what I got at dusk, however. I had visualized this as the trainyards big and close, with downtown in the distance, but this wideangle view just really seemed to work better. Maybe some of my other shots from this session will be close to that, but I'm really pleased with this one. Two separate adjustments in Canon DPP, since the city was still in the sun and the trainyards were in shadows. Layered and merged. Some clarify and selective touch ups thrown in. I think I got a really nice look to this that might get mistaken for HDR.
Pre-challenge notes:
I think this is pretty darn good, and am hopeful for a high score. I have learned that others often see something differently than I do, however. I tend to prefer strong perspectives and leading lines. I will never know if I don't throw it in. I still figure this should be good for something in the high 5's and hoping for a 6.

All positive comments on this, but not coming in as high as I had hoped. Making a fair score though. May hit a 5 1/2 if the late voters like it.
Post-challenge notes:
Talk about splitting hairs. Exactly a 5.5. Thought I'd nailed a better one, but it's always hard to tell exactly where the mass appeal will fall. From the voting breakdown I can tell that plenty of folks liked it. It would be nice, however, to get some feedback from those who thought it was "just ok". |
