Originally, I shot this with a linear wide lens (kit 18-55mm) but I just couldn't get everything in the shot that I wanted to... the problem was that no matter what I did, the balls were just too damn small in the frame... I wanted them to be the key in the shot, so I decided to break out my Nikon 10.5mm fisheye lens. This lens can take shots with a 180 degree view from upper corner on one side to lower corner to the other side, and it is an extremely sharp and expensive prime Nikon lens (about $800 plus tax)... As you will be able to see in the setup pics, the camera is hanging over the table practically right on top if the balls, this makes them large in the frame, BUT the 180 degree view makes sure that the other end of the table is still in the shot... (this is a regulation size pool table). there is wall right behind me and a flight of stairs... When I first did it, the back wall was way too bright (there were no flashes for this shot... just the plain old pot lights in the ceiling... the exposure was long, so i was getting full exposure on the back wall... I tried to burn it out, but SC said that it was not acceptable, so I went to the fabric store and bought a huge sheet of black cloth (1.5m by 7m) for $24 and draped it over the back wall and staircase and then fired away... believe it or not, this pic was only edited with Basic Editing rules... that's all it needed. I had other shots with more ball motion, but then the triangle of balls wasn't so nice.. so I had to go with this one...

If you want to copy this shot, just setup your camera, start the self timer (I used a remote to trigger the self timer) then as soon as the shutter opens, wait like half a second, then shoot the cue ball into the balls... just make sure you don't move the hand you have resting on the table that the cue is sliding on otherwise it will get blurry due to unwanted motion...

If you are trying to copy this shot and need any help, PLEASE don't be afraid to PM me... it's EASY!!!

I hope this does better than last weeks entry as I need to give a little more help the our Olympics team, as I wasn't much help last week =)

This must have been fun to shoot (and how many takes, I wonder). Clever and fits the theme.

Looks like a re-shoot of one last week, but that one knew how to rack the balls. However I like the extreme wide angle and effect of the time exposure. Not voting.

Oh very clever, I really like this. It looks like you may have sunk the number one ball on the break too.
