On a positive note very nice B&W conversion capturing great tones. The area to improve on this one is the composition. Can't add much that hasn't already been said below. I defintiely consider this vista as a potential place for a re-shoot. I find myself going back to some spots more than one.

I agree with you on the B&W here, it makes the sky look really dramatic and brings out the texture in the rock.

I agree with one of the comments below about the size of the mountains, I'm not sure why but they could be any size at all, including 5ft high rocks! It could be because the foreground seems to lead up to them very quickly making them feel a lot closer than they are (and thus smaller).

I'm guessing from where you are you're looking over the edge of a cliff or hill and there's an expanse of valley between you and the mountains, but the infinite DOF is causing the sense of scale to be lost.

Perhaps if you were a bit further forward so we could see what is between you and the mountains it would give a better sense of scale.

I am with rlewis on the composition with regards to the land - it does not seem to really provide enough 'dramatic feel' - even though the light and b/w processing are very dramatic. A different angle at this shot - lower so we could be looking up at the mountains - or placing the mountains higher in the frame (less sky - even though it is one heck of a sky!) might help make this a bit more dramatic.

Thanks for taking the time to critique my photo! I see the point being made by you and rlewis about the mountain not inspiring, or not being dramatic. I think the problem is that from my vantage point, the peak was probably only a couple hundred feet higher than I was. A better angle would have been down in the river valley, but would have been another two hour hike down and out to get the shot, and it was already near sunset when this was taken.

Very nice shot. IMO, the right side mountains are too dark. The clouds are very nice. You might be able to crop a bit off the top, and a bit off the left to bring the peak in a bit closer.

There is a lot to like about this image (dramatic clouds, snow on the mountain, the light playing on the mountain), but the "land" part of the image as a whole doesn't inspire me. Maybe it is too much of the flat lifeless foreground or the sense that the mountains are smaller than I suspect they really are. The sense of mountains isn't grabbing me. Please understand this is intended as a helpful comment and not a criticism.

Very nice shot. The conversion was done near perfectly, great tonal range.
