A gas station that was damaged and closed by Hurricane Ike. This was taken right after a storm rolled through the area this past week. Reminded me of that feeling of right after the hurricane.

After reading your notes, I realize the dark and dull may have been intentional. I did save my edit if you are interested in seeing what some adjustments did, otherwise it will get deleted soon.

This shot is really dark and dull, but it has detail that can be brought out. I copied it into PaintShop pro and the histogram showed the distibution of light and dark had nothing on the rightmost 1/3. A quick levels adjustment improved it big time. A couple of other easy tweaks (curves, saturation, clarify, contrast & sharpening) really added some pop to the shot.

This looks like galveston to me. I was there over the weekend. if it is, my bet this is the gas station entering the island on the left side of the 45. I was so close of photographing it too.
