On camera flash doesn't help this image.
Try to ues a more imaginitive lighting setup. Either try to get your flash off your camera, or use window lighting or a reflector to make things more interesting and softer.

Or, as my Grey and I say, s-t-r-e-t-c-h! I am envious of the plumage; my girl is a plucker. I like the pose, needless to say, and you got the all-important catchlight in the eye. Crop is a little too tight on the top and left (bet you knew that already) and though the light isn't as harsh as some I've seen it still seems like a fill light from the left might have improved this. Bonus point for it being a Grey ;-)
