Went out in a semi-random direction Saturday evening looking for a landscape. Didn't find what I had in mind, but this one was a keeper. My original idea for the brown challenge was to reproduce Kung Fu Bullet Train by Posthumous, but with Godzilla attacking the train. (I may still do that one for fun.) I really didn't know how to carry it off effectively. I had a browse through the thread showing all the brown entries and ran across a brownie with grazing cows and a fence, with a wide crop that seemed fairly similar to mine.
A fortuitous coincidence.
I'm surprised this one came out as well as it did. I was at the full 300mm reach of my lens, with a bit of wind affecting the stability of my tripod. Many of the other shots from this session were throwaways.
Pre-challenge notes:
Hoping this is good for a high 5. It's got that cliche sunset and silhouette that seem to always do well in challenges. No water drops, however. (Sorry about that. I'll see if I can sprinkle some water drop on the steer next time.) I may get some critique on the border. Borders usually get some comments from folks that dislike them. I tried it with and without, but I felt the border set it off better.
Since I used the title from the original brownie (leaving out the state, as I am in Texas, not Kansas), I expect many folks will be checking it against the original to see how close it looks. I'm curious if the votes and comments will be influenced by how faithful to the original brownie it is.
Post-challenge notes:
I think the softness of the fence hurt the visual impact on this. I didn't realize that until it was already in voting, or I would have done some selective sharpening on it. Didn't come in as well as I'd hoped. I got exactly the same amount of 4's and 6's in this one. How's that for straight down the middle? |

LOL! Never thought of taking the shot first then trying to find a brownie "match"!!! I really like the colors in your shot and the silhouettes. I've stopped trying to figure out the whys and wherefores of voting; just do the best I can, and learning a lot from the comments and the work of really great photogs on this site. See ya next round! |

I wish the cow's back didn't line up with the top rail. It make it kinda look like he's skewered! Nice silhouette though. |

could be sharper and may be too wide IMO, im guessing you cropped a lot maybe thats why it is soft, but still a really cool capture |
