I tried to stay true to the original by starting with an old brown oak leaf (found on the floor of my garage) and shot it straight on.

Because mine was wrinkled and brittle, I added a bit of cooking oil to the surface to rejuvenate it. This had the added benefit of giving it a nice shine and bringing the textures and colors to life. I also threw in the droplets for added interest/perspective.

Converted from raw, exposure, rotate, curves, hue, slight saturation, possible cloning out of dust element, re-size, usm, border.

I love the magnifying droplet. Excellent colors, nice sheen which improves the detail.

Wow. This is remarkably faithful to the goals of the original challenge and to what Whiterook was trying to accomplish, so you get high props for that.

I vaguely wish you'd resisted the temptation to throw in the always-pleasing DPC cliché water droplet, but I can't really punish you for knowing what the voters like can I? And the image is beautifully lit and actually fairly puzzling, as a macro; exactly what is that surface, anyway? You even managed to make an image that's entirely *brown* (in a brown ribbon challenge) and make it look appealing :-)

End result, an 8 from me for now.
