Colors and composition are well done and this looks like a peaceful moment. Sometimes when I don't have a tripod I'll sit down or lean against something and I can hold it still for a bit longer. I'm going to DC in a couple months and would love to see this and shoot it.

Way to make lemonade out of insomnia lemons. I should try that sometime. I have insomnia big time, but I usually end up just tossing and turning, or getting up and doing mindless "stuff" on my computer. I think grabbing my camera and tripod would be a much more constructive use of the time.

Sometimes using that tripod and letting your hands feel all raw like they are bleeding is actually worth it. Your hands get warm really fast when its over, but then you have the crystal clear photo forever. I've had to do it in Colorado a few times, and I never regretted it :)

Thanks everyone.

Ann and Melethia - Yes this was handheld. It was frigid cold out that morning so I didn't spend the time for a tripod. I'm going back in the Spring to try again with the tripod.

Judi - Thanks for the tip, I'll have to try that out.

Beautiful morning light! Did you use a tripod or handhold this? I know I hate lugging the tripod, so for longish shots, I tend to find things to set the camera on - walls, trash cans, whatever. Also helps if you use the timer instead of the the shutter button when you're using odd inanimate objects.

Cool colors and composition. The softness is the only knock.

Great sky. Was this handheld?

Try using a manual focus to control your clarity.
