A weathered branch stub on a downed dead tree. Too much contrast on the stubby part (shot in bright overhead sun). Tried toning it down some, but still didn't get quite the look I was hoping for.

Considering the hard light, I think this turned out quite well, and I like the textures. The vertical crop is ok with me, but I wonder how it would look with just a bit taken off the top.

Great texture in the wood. Might try a defuser for bright overhead sun shots.
cheers,

Blown out stub is probably right, but it's good with all the texture and lines. I doubt if you could do better with processing (I couldn't, that's for sure) because you don't want a black mass on the rest of the shot.
Nice genre.

I like black and white wood shots. The blown out stub isn't helping this one though.

First thing I did was to tilt my head to the right. My brain wants to see it in a horizontal position LOL Nicely processed.

It's a good shot to show textures and the shadow but lacks a bit of "oomph" - by that I do not mean "wow", since I'm not always big into "wow", but something to show more depth, perhaps. A different angle with some depth of field, perhaps?

Nice textures and tones here. The shadows are little too dark IMO.

I like the contrast of light and shadow, and the contrast of textures between the stubby part and the rest. The stubby part may be a little blown out, but I'm not sure that's a problem.

I to was thinking it was a croc viewing the thumbnail! Nice PP, I think the shadow adds some dimension to the photo.

Wonderful textures, wood works so well in B&W. The thumbnail is amusing, for a second I thought it was a crocodile sticking it's nose through a hole in a wooden fence!

I like the shadow my son said it looks like a tree in a river
