Week 4 of PAW 2009
Not very exciting. Just trying out 3 stacked manual extension tubes with my 18-200 lens at 200 for the first time.
Plus according to my calendar today is the 28th making it the end of the 4th week of the year. I'll be switching to Sunday to Saturday weeks when I stop procrastinating so much.

Stopped lens to f11 and removed from camera with power on so retain f-stop with manual tubes. Made sure OS was off! Maybe I should have gone with a higher f-stop for greater DOF.
Shot on tripod with pen on paper and light just over it.
Set for fluorescent WB to match source and import to PS
crop
Topaz Adjust "Vibrance" plus 1.5 sharpen

I have cheap manual extension tubes that don't pass anything but light through. The lens is normally wide open unless you press the button to stop it down. Maybe you can fiddle with little levers to stop down the lens with it off, but the way I heard to do it is while you press the button to stop it down to the f stop you want, turn the camera off and it will retain the f-stop.

Yes, Judi, I agree the point being in focus would be better than the barrel. Maybe if I stopped down to f22 it would have turned out better.

Very good job for using the extension tubes, that DOF can be a real killer. Just curious why you took lens off the retain f-stop, couldn't you adjust with tubes on? I think mine just pass the signal straight through.

This is an excellent macro. I love it when the ordinary because something special.

I would have liked to have seen the focus more on the nib...it just misses it.

Very good work with the extension tubes! I suspect you're going to have a lot of fun with the macro business - thanks for sharing your methodology, too!

Great job nailing the macro. I might have tried a slightly different angle of the pen to make the composition a little less static.

I think the DOF worked well as is. A lot more detail than I have ever seen on a pen before...

Not very interesting to look at but sharp and no doubt your tubes works just fine.

An ordinary subject made very interesting! Thanks for the info on the tubes- I'm a newby, so all very technical sounding to me!
Miss a little sharpness on the edges?

I think your dof is fine, and the focus is spot on. I know the shot is just a practice exercise, but I think it came out very nice.
