Challenge: Opposites (Basic Editing I)
Camera: Nikon Coolpix 5700
Location: Front walk of my house
Date: May 11, 2004
Aperture: f 5.7
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/4000sec
Galleries: Nature, Still Life
Date Uploaded: May 11, 2004

I just finished a new flagstone walkway in the front of my house. This flower was displaced as a result of the construction. I thought it appropriate that the two opposites be included in my shot.

The colors and differences in textures with your two subjects are great. The flower is obviously not there naturally so it detracts from the overall photo but I enjoy your composition and framing with the flagstones and use of negative space.

Good colors and focus. It looks a bit static though, like you placed the flower. If you did, I'd have added a few leaves. If you didn't - well...sorry. I think I'd like the flower facing into the photo instead of away. It's still a good photo. Nice Job!

great lines

Nice figure and ground. Off-center framing works too. I'm not sure a flower/stem conveys "soft" as well as the pavers/stones convey "hard."

I like the textures and lighting in this. The flower is out of focus though.

This is really nice, I like it alot. I'm guessing that you posed the flower there? Great image! One of my favorites! Hope this one goes to the top!

I really love this one! Striking indeed. The color balance is just right. The flower doesn't stand out too much, as if you had desaturated the stones, but it stands out enough to keep drawing your eye back to it. And so sharp!

Nice idea and shot. The focus is pretty good but I think the greys in the rock make the picture a little too dull. I give it a 6
