This special effect was done with a Cozo-filter called "Mirage". It looks like a 5-sided prism.I bought it for my Nikon-cameras long ago. So I had to use two stepdown rings to make it fit on my E-10. One 62-58mm and one 58-52mm. I also used one 500W light from front-left and one 150W from front-right (held by the "not-for-the-moment-photographed" twin).

Composition - The shot is cropped a little too close. It would've been more appealing back a little further because the eye on the left side is out of focus. I question the decision to use that side for the other projections of the face because the projections are even more out of focus. If the other side could be used it probably would've turned out better, even if the image was flipped to orient it the same as this.

The effect of the lighting here is really crucial to the mood of the picture. The way the lighting is so bright makes it seem like his head is in the clouds. I think with the lighting medium from one side only would make this a much more emotive shot and give some separation between the images with some degree of shadows.

For the lighting, the exposure is exceptional. It is very bright but there is no part of this image that is remotely washed out. The focus on the majority of the face is good, only the eye on the left side is slightly out of focus.

This photo looks very processed, but I'm guessing with the prism filter used, probably wasn't. The brightness could've been turned down a little, and the saturation boosted a bit to give a little more color, but the lighting when the shot was taken would have had a bigger impact.

Overall, I was not fond of this shot when I voted on it. Knowing how it was done I have a little more appreciation for the picture, but I feel that changes in the lighting would've dramatically helped this photo by adding an emotive element to the picture.

I like the shot. and the expression. I would have cropped a little at the top to remove the brown part. Somehow it rminds me of the woman face in minority report, agatha, I really like that expression a lot. 7. Lionel

Awesome shot! The unobtrusive high key feeling works great with the face of the young boy. I can't believe, that this pic is within the rules, but I trust in you ;-). I'm very interested in your explanation after the challenge! - 10 nds

I'm not so sure of how legal this is. Regardless, I'm not particularly fond of the shot.
