No better inspiration for this challenge and I have some really nice diffused light over my desk at work, so here it is, simple and basic. A sheet of 11x17 paper for a backdrop. Powershot S5 with a Gorillapod. This was a first for me with an editing technique. I merged two separate exposures of the same scene to gain greater depth of field.
Even at F8, and shooting with a compact camera, a wide DOF is hard to achieve. A fair amount of work with layers, dodge/burn & clone to get the background nice and clean looking. Several different edits to get a mono tone that I liked. Finally settled on just a faint touch of a blue colorize to make the blacks seem a little stronger. This is also a rare shot in that I did no cropping at all. I was happy with the composition right out of the camera.
Pre-challenge notes:
Not expecting a lot, there's not a lot of wow factor here, but I hope enough people see it as a well photographed stock shot to pull it into the mid 5's. Possible critiques may include a little too bright or high-key.

Ended up about where I had anticipated. The early votes were really low, so this one really came up from behind. |
