 Visited Yosemite last week for the first time in winter. The place is absolutely beautiful in winter. This one is probably taken from the same place as mpeters winning image in December free study. The study shows how much differece in photo lighting and more importantly a great photographer can make.

Used Photomatix to merge three exposures and used tone mapping. (First time tried my hands on HDR).

Just beautiful...and the differences between your shot and mpeters shot (and Ansel Adams shot) show that just because you all stopped at the same spot, you all captured it differently. Its important to feed your own creativity and don't sell yourself short, this is really good work.

Man, that is a gorgeous location. I may have to go myself one of these days, just to take it in! Pretty good job with the tone mapping, I think. A bit over on the blues, perhaps - not sure if that's from the curves or the tone mapping.

What a beautiful scene. And you're right. It is amazing how different the looks are with different lighting. I think the blue tones are very pretty. Ethereal looking.

It definitely looks like the same place and it's a wonderful photo. Perhaps the light is less spectacular here, but the main difference with the photo of mpeters is (I think) that the snow isn't white here. Gives a somewhat moonlight effect which doesn't fit very well with the background. Still, I would be very happy if I could make such a nice photo.

Nice photo, the clock was at the wrong hour to make the most of this but still a nice job. Good use of HDR for a first timer!

Stunning shot. I wish I could find some unfrozen water around here to include in a good landscape, but alas all the bodies of water are solid ice this time of year.
