Thanks for the comments and the thumb thing...

wtg pawdrix for being a butthead and more importantly for pointing out the pairings...

...err the pairings...um ok...right...the 2 joggers...the grumpy old man with the coffee and his younger happier counterpart...object picker upper with the high rolled pants and his oddly hunched sidekick ...the made for each other couple unknowingly about to converge...the interested woman with funky shoes and her paranoid partner with the important documents sheild...the bird...sh*t the bird.

...wait got it...fried chicken on the banner...

p.s. - the border is kitschy...Rockaway Beach is a kitschy kind of place ;)

Actually, I hired DeSoussa. Flew him in from Lisbon just for the job. No way I could have pulled that scene off without the help of a master.

Matt - I found one more pairing: The "grumpy old man with the coffee" and the profile pic of this guy.

And you say it was butthead pawdrix who pointed out the pairings? Have you considered that he may be hiring actors to stage these elaborately improbable street tableaux that you photograph, without your actually being aware of it?

"But why?", I hear you ask. Who knows? Who can say what madness romps unchecked through that tortured mind? I've read Anthony Bourdain; these chef guys are all very strange birds, and they do an awful lot of dope.

Don't be so hard on yourself...i believe you need more photographs providing more incentive to do so first...some of my other work included :(

I'm such an ass and really glad Ubique is here to point that out. ;)

I was more wrapped up in knowing where this was taken (Coney or the Rockaways) to even notice the pairings. I need to get my head out of my butt and start looking a little more.

Really, really nice. Cheers and congrats on your well earned Thumb.

I voted 5 during the competition but now when I look again, this really grows on me! With a little better light conditions, this would be a really nice one!!

Oh, thank you for the point to Death & Laundry, Steve! I think I may prefer it as well. I'd not seen it because I was not active here when it was originally being underestimated. And I can't award it the Order of the Thumb posthumously, because that would only confuse people, especially the actual Dead Guy. But I would if I could.

I prefer your "Death & Laundry" capture, although, this is outstanding as well. Congrats on receiving the "Order of the Thumb."

That's a super-duper photograph! This in spite of the cheesy title (the title won't help, BTW ... no actual sand = "DNMC" from the lumpen masses). Ah, well. 9. Nah, screw it ... 10. And the longer I look the more it appeals; the opposite of my experience of most ribbon winning images, which doesn't bode well for your chances, I'm afraid.

A cast of characters ΓΆ€“ some marvelously improbable ΓΆ€“ assembled and arranged here to perfection, and you managed all that, plus the actual photography, in just a fraction of a second! It's a good thing you don't get paid by the hour, or this would be worth about two cents. Fortunately you don't, and it isn't.

But speaking of small change, may I confer upon you my own two cents ... the little-regarded and delightfully divisive Order of the Thumb?

I know who this must be... another phenominal shot in this location. I swear you must choreograph these people AND the bird.

I find it odd that you can get that many people in one photograph without them being overlapped. Nice catch.

A lot going on here. Perhaps too much. I like the diagonal and horizontal lines as they work well. The runners are a bit tight to the crop. Two on the people appear to be looking at you and one is hiding. It makes for an odd mix of people.

It's such a good composition with the people so evenly spaced and every other one going in a different direction that it looks almost set up! Nice creativity with the challenge topic.
