 Got the idea when I found a colony all too near our house. Definitely something I had never tried before. And they where everywere, so how hard can it be, right?

Even if they where everywhere, it turns out they are very quick little creatures, without any desire for posing. Even at 1/320 (which was as fast as lightning conditions allowed) it was very few images where I actually managed to freeze their movement. A new experience I assure you.

The desat thing is also a first for me, and it definitely made the picture more interesting, since the ant and the background color blended together in the original picture.

I gave this one of my highest votes for this challenge (a 7) in spite of the selective desaturation which I've made it publically known I'm not a fan of. ;-) In this case, it really does work to emphasize the little ant who might have disappeared in the wood (although I'm curious to see a version without this technique).
One of the things I like about this is that is a macro that places the insect in an interesting context. The photo tells a story. Really nice.

Great macro, I like the off-centering of the ant. The desaturation works well here. A black border wouldn't hurt.

Nice desaturation as it really directs focus to the ant. Nice sharp focus and textures. I might have cropped the right side a bit tighter to eliminate the lower right corner. 7

The colors on the ant really emphasize it as the subject when contrasted against the monochromatic wood. The sharpness, details, and point of view are amazing,- this is a really outstanding image!
