 Shot at, yes, a Jewish Shabbat (Sabbath)/pre-Chanukah potluck event at the Reform temple in Berkeley. Isaac returned from a sponsored hike around the neighborhood in time to find the dessert tables still fully-stocked ...

Relatively low (fluorescent) lighting/high ISO setting made for a noisy original.

-Handheld, Tv mode
-Noise-reduction with PictureCooler
-RGB Curve
-Blue/Yellow Curve
-Resize
-Crop a little from top, bottom and right to 3:2 ratio
-Clone out a couple of spots on the table, and some small but ugly reflections on the chocolate and the plate edge.
-USM at 12%/48 dia/TH = 0
-USM at 88%/0.8 dia/TH = 5 (applied twice)
-SaveAs JPEG at qualtiy 9/10 = 197KB

the pastry at the top was one of my very favourites for many years ..
palmier .. i used to visit my mum every week and stop on the way at a french pastry shop which was close to her home .. i'd buy at least 10 or more of these yummy treats to take home and eat thru the week .. i lived over an hour and a half from my mums ..
i have tried them at different pastry shops but never found any as nice as the ones that i got at the pastry shop near my mum's ..
seeing your pic brought back a lot of memories .. my mum has since passed away .. but i'm thinking of her right now thanks to your pic ..

The yellow tones combine well with the deep greens of the background. Setting this up as a stack shows off the top item well, but hides the other cookies, with the darkest one looking unappetizingly like charcoal. Maybe an attractive positioning around the plate with a little overlapping would have been more appealing.

The table top looks a little weird/dirty & pulls my eyes away from the subject.

This looks very grainy on my screen, which really detracts from this image a lot. The background doesn't add much to the photo either, and I personally and not fond of the centered composition.... but - I do really love the desaturation, and the shallow depth of field looks great. :)
