This is a fairly simple shot: walked out into my backyard Saturday night (beautiful and unusually snowy season in the lower Puget Sound).
G10, flash on, pointed it up at the tree to catch some falling snow: The flash barely illuminated the tree, so it has a nebulous feel. The snowflakes were illuminated at varying distances, and the "motion blur" is really just a flake that melted as it hit the lens. There was some wind moving the branches in a slow, random wave. I really love these trees. In a wind, they almost look as if they are dancing gracefully.
I was inspired to attempt this by nlghttrain's
posted in this thread.
Just a note about Bokeh: I know that this submission is really stretching the definition of the term, and I expect the scores to reflect it. I don't consider it a shoehorn, but I realize it is definitely "out of family" with the other entries.
I actually got my brand new 50mm 1.4 lens the day the challenge closed. It got me excited about entering the Bokeh challenge, which I had just noticed. Events overtook me, and the hour or so I had available to shoot with the new lens evaporated. I recalled this image from Saturday, and since I was so jazzed about being in a challenge again (been a while) I decided to go for it. Since this is bokeh of a sort.
But now that I have that 50mm 1.4, bokeh will be an element in a lot of my images. Might hafta change my handle to Bokehdome... :-)
Happy Holidays, All! |

Very "cosmic", strange and interesting picture. I agree that it is not the best choice for the challenge, but really worth looking at! |

Through the eyes of a snowflake... what worlds we see. |

I think this is just lovely! It reminds me of an astrophotograph, a nebula in a starfield. |

I'm not sure if the B&W was a good choice, i'm very confused with the tree because it's blurry for me, not a bokeh. The snow falling is really beautiful and i don't know how you did it, but this doesn't make me feel like i'm looking at a bokeh photo. |

The wind in the tree has given this a whispy, airy feeling, very cool. Some of the snowflakes are a bit too bright for my liking but it's an interetsing photo. |

Great shoot. Is it a tree shaking? |

I almost think it would work better without the snowflakes. They end up just looking like big white pixels. I could see this as a series of monstrous huge prints in an art gallery titled "study of wind and trees" or something like that. good luck. |

This is a gorgeous image! Not sure if it fits my idea of bokeh, but beautiful. |
