 This is my son James with his Grandma, Gaga as he calls her. He sees her almost every single day, we make sure of that. She's 86 years old and he's almost 2. The opposite ends of the life cycle. One is just begining the great journey and one is in the final stretch of her great journey.

Cropped, used the channel mixer to take out all but the green channel, set to monochrome (thanks kirbic), adjusted the contrast, added just a touch of sepia coloration and there you have it.

Yes, I know James is blurry and I will probably lose a lot of points for that but I like him that way because it shows his motion, his zest for life and I really didn't want to use the flash to make it all sharp, the light is from the wall of windows he was looking out of. He is almost 2, a constant blur when awake and wired and that is how I wanted to capture him.

Wow... shutter speed of 1/15. Not good for shooting people as they move around quite a bit. (Hence the motion blur on the boy.) With the FP 3800, I wouldn't even try to shoot people with a shutter speed less than 1/100.

So that's motion blur, not a focus problem in the foreground. You can see the depth created by f2.8 in the window frame in the background.

Fabulous candid. I love the focus on the woman, and then the motion blur on the child. It gives another sense of opposition - the stillness of age and wisdom compared to the exhuberance and activitiy of youth. I just wish that little window or frame wasn't up in the background. The textures on her face are wonderful.

Great concept. Watching the photographer in the mirror is a bit too distracting. This is a rare instance, also, that I think you could have achieved a better B&W by stripping out two of the RGB channels instead of just desaturating the shot. Of course, that may be in a very grey area (pun almost intended) of the editing rules.

Unfortunate that the boy is OOF. Coloration is nice, but there is a bit too much noise for my taste.
