This "Imperial" 7x7 wapiti bull posed well for me during a snow storm in RMNP. It was a rare encounter. This big guy is a 7x7, or thereabouts. That's as much antler growth as we ever see in Colorado. I wanted a very narrow DOF, so opened the aperture completely. Also, at the last moment I switched to my 200mm, from my 135mm. It was an issue of safe and comfortable distance for him and me. The sky was overcast with snow showers beginning.
I consider this to be a good presentation of bokeh, both in front and behind the wapiti. The falling snow shows the DOF plane effectively, but I expect some voters to not understand. In that regard, this image is a risk to enter into the challenge, as I had other images with unobstructed views and no snow. I found this one to be more interesting and unique because of the snow. |

This is an excellent shot - especially since it seems he's not only posing gracefully, but smiling for you. The gentle color, the falling snow, your choice of aperture all contribute to the overall beautiful presentation. A shot you can be very proud of! |

Beautiful shot! If I came on this scene, I'm not sure I would manage to get the settings right to get a shot like this! I love the falling snow. This is a ribbon contender to me! |

Nice capture. This is pretty cool. Have you tried to touch it up at all? This looks like it could use a little bit of contrast. Still, awesome shot. |

Absolutely amazing. If this were a wildlife challenge I'm sure I would rate this higher. The bokeh is fine, but it's just not what I notice in this shot. I would LOVE to get this shot myself, though. 7 |
