 Drove for the first time to Yaquina Head near Newport, OR. I was afraid the 2 hours drive and getting up at 4:50 was going to be for naught as there was a lot of clouds (was supposed to be clear) and the gate was closed on the park. The ranger finally came to open the gate 10 minutes before official sunrise. Usually the best color comes 20 minutes before sunrise, but not today. There was a band of orange, as you can see, that marched across the sky. That was about it, but it was enough. The little basalt cobble beach is a great place to shoot and I am definitely going to have to return.

Wow, this week has been great and terrible. I have been waiting for the shoe to fall all week, but it didn't. I have always dreamed of scoring an 8.0. I think this will fall short, but it's probably the closest I will get. It is also a new personal best which is 17 months after the last. Thanks everybody for the votes!

Very cool! I live here and have not done this angle! Sometimes it is not easy to get around those rangers. They want everyone out exactly at sunset, and as you probably know, sometimes right after sunset is the best time to take some shots. Good job on the early morning thought!

Jason, well done. So much going on in this photograph. For me the water is washing in, pushing the viewer to the cliff, wrapping around to the lighthouse to bring in the sky. This is one of your most enjoyable landscapes in my opinion. Ben

Wonderful sky - worth the drive, I'd say - looks like a wonderful place to visit and shoot. Hope whatever was terrible with your week has righted itself because the photography part was certainly quite good! (And yes, to me a bit oversharpened, but hey, what the heck do I know?)

This was my favorite from the challenge. Love the blurred foam, and the rocky outcropping extening out with the lighthouse is great. The clouds really add a sense of the dramatic to this, emphasizing the magnitude of everything. A smidgeon of the sky appears blown out, but that's nitpicking.

Wow, you really captured a nice moment here. The clouds are awe inspiring and I like the heavy handed contrast. Dodging is fairly noticble but I think it adds to the impact of the shot. Good luck as I think this one will be hard to top!

the glow within the clouds draws your eye into the photograph, the long exposure of the water creates a sense of movement with the ebbing tide

Strong image, the several curves of the shore and the sky make it very attractive. A bit overprocessed and oversharpened imo, but still a very good work.
