Challenge: Rusted (Basic Editing I)
Camera: Canon EOS-D60
Location: Blackall Range, QLD, Australia
Date: May 4, 2004
Aperture: f/5.6
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/6 sec
Galleries: Macro, Rural
Date Uploaded: May 4, 2004

Was going to change the hue to give the whole photo a rusty colour, but thought the original colours gave a better indication of the time of day - early morning. There was low cloud over a dam in the background.

Cropped, sharpened and slightly saturated.

Seems to be a bit washed out, but I love the water droplet and depth of field.

And the reason why. Very nice photo. The subject is not as totally defined as I would like. I would like to have seen this with the camera closer, with a little more exposure on the wire. The background is wonderful. It would have been superb if the raindrop had brought into focus what the aperture of the camera left diffuse.
The gradation of color and light in the background is highly appealing and I enjoy looking at this picture. I am hesitating about moving onto the next one to rate.

Great work.

A 9.

Subject seems a bit underexposed. I like the drop of water, makes it much more interesting.

Would suggest at landscape orientation instead of portrait. Otherwise, neat idea! =-)

the wire seems a bit out of focus, but great shot

you could probably have gotten away with a tigher crop on the top intead of centering the barb. I think would have had a greater impact on the picture and would have given it a 10. <8>

This is soft and sweet...and quiet.

great!! i wish the wire was a little more in focus though

It´s a good photo, but I don´t see the rusty red. I give you a 6.

This is a beautiful take on the Challenge. I'm glad you entered it. Wouldn't change a thing. Good seeing.

great shot. nice detail. I would try cropping off about a third off either top or bottom. (rule of thirds) I think that would give even greater appeal. Little details could be the difference between a good score and a ribbon :-) 8

hard shot to pull off well. Nice job!

the web, rust, and water drop work well together

Don't love this narrow, vertical format. I think it would be a 'wow' if you cropped it so that the barbed wire was in the uppermost section of the frame (with a little of the blurred background above it).

very nice
05/05/2004 04:43:07 AM
This would be perfect if the frame had been done horizontally. ;)

nice, great crop and comp. but the wire seems to need more light,...little fill flash
