Well, our lions ended up in the same neighborhood, Leo. FWIW, I thought yours was much stronger.

Like the contrast between light and shadow.

Classic pose, but I wish I could see the pupil in the eye on the left. 6

You must have a great zoo, or a connection there to get this shot! I like how you went about with the lighting, but I really wish we could see the other eye! So maybe a bit too harsh on the shadowing. The fur, however, has great detail, and i like how it fills the frame. 6

Great shot of this amazing beast. Really nice detail throughout the face. What kills it for me is the eye. I think its the shadow crossing that blocks out the pupil. It looks strange. Obv not your fault, but just something that sticks out. 6

Lions are tricky folk to work with, I imagine. If you tell them to turn left or right, they might bite your head off :) That said, I have NO idea how you got him to stand still for the one sided lighting you have going on here. This is beautiful and strikes a very sad feeling in me for some reason. I do wish I could see the eye on the right side and the noisy mane in the bottom right corner distracts my eye a bit. But, all in all nicely done.

unusual light for quite a common subject

Great clarity. I've looked at this several times but still don't like the half shadowed face - wish there was just a little more light there.

Nice lighting, but I'm missing the eye-connection here. He looks a bit life-less which makes me think it's a stuffed lion. Pretty animal, nonetheless!
