Challenge: Rusted (Basic Editing I)
Camera: Canon PowerShot G3
Location: Downtown St. John's harborfront
Date: May 3, 2004
Aperture: 2.0
ISO: 50
Shutter: 1/800
Galleries: Sky, Vintage
Date Uploaded: May 4, 2004

On my way home from a beautiful sunny afternoon snapping for the Rust challenge, came upon this old fence near the harbor that I guess had been rusted by the salt air, and this padlock just hanging there. Looked like the perfect subject, so I snapped from a few different angles and this one looked the best to me.

Cropped, auto contrast, Neat Imaged it, unsharp mask, resize.

just needed to be a smidge more to the right for composition, the padlock that is, otherwise GREAT! love the blue against the rust and the rest of fhe compostion and the exposure and focus.

I love the saturation of this and the forced perspective of the fence. The contrast of the color of the sky and the orange and browns is wonderful, as is the difference in the textures.

Fantastic shot! The only thing I would possibly change is to reflect a bit of light onto the bottom of the padlock to reveal a bit of detail there. Well done though.

Nice composition, almost off-centered. The perspective is really good. I like the contrast in colors between the rust and the sky.

Very well done...

Great highlighting of the subject in this image, and what a beautiful blue background. the underside of the padlock appears a bit too dark.

Nice subject, nice composition, pretty colors, nice time of day I like that all of the foreground is in focus although the hasp and lit side of lock seem to be little out of focus. A difficult problem.

A 7.

Great blues here...was a polarizer used?

Good work on the colors and focus. No bulls-eye on interest and composition, but still an appealing shot!

It took good seeing to find this one and the composition is delightful. Good colors and nice shadows. Um, border patrol: I'd have probably gotten rid of that little right lower corner bit of fencing.

Very graphic and colorful. Diagonal composition really helps.

one of the top three in my opinion, clean design but the contrasting colors is what truely drew me in. I looked for reasoning behind shots not just a pretty rusty object and in this one i rationalized that the lock dealt with the certainity and inability to change the course of deterioration.

A tricky shot in which to get the exposure right. Unfortunately, exposing correctly for the sky leaves the padlock badly underexposed. You could have tried a light fill in flash to solve this. As it is, the padlock, which is a key element in the photo is too dark for my liking. Otherwise it's a nicely composed shot.

Could use more detail in shadows of padlock. Nice composition.

niiiiiice shot !!

IMO, should have been cropped out a bit more on the right side (right bottom corner spoils it) and less dof would have more impact. Still, one of my favourites, 8

It would be nice to have a hint of detail in the bottom shadow area. Very striking image though.

I like this photo, though in the title, I would have left out the word Padlock.
