Hey there from the Critique Club
Camera Work/Technical: Reading through the comments, I'll just echo that focus is way off. I'll agree with Sarah that the aperture need not be so small.
Lighting: Nicely lit to produce an interesting graduation of white and yellow.
Composition/Content: The content is unoriginal and has been shot lots here. I do like your choice to shoot the yellow subject on a yellow background, but I think that also added to your focusing issues using autofocus.
My Opinion: Paired with the commonality of this subject on DPC (I've even shot one similar with an orange), the focus combination was enough to kill the score. I agree with the placement.
Thank you for the opportunity to provide a critique on your entry,
Eric

Greetings from the Critique Club
I like the composition of this pic, the subject is well placed and you have made some good use of the negative space. The graduated yellow background also works well.
I don't think you are going to be surprised to read my comment concerning the focus. Other people have identified this as a problem and you, yourself have said you had a hard time focusing. The image really needs to be very sharp to be effective and this really is not. With some images you can get away with a slightly soft focus, but not with this type of shot. One of the reasons you may have found it difficult to get everything really sharp is the aperture you have used. Using a 1.8 will make it very hard to get the whole subject in focus. Stopping down a few stops should have helped (say around F8). I know this would have affected the shutter speed, but an ISO adjustment could have helped that too.
I think your score was pretty much where I would expect it to be given the subject was not in focus.
Keep trying, I'm sure you will get there.
Sarah

Good idea, you should have set your focus more on the slice of lemon. |

I think it should have sharper focus on the drop. |

I've already seen too much citrus and drops in this and other challenges, but what kills this one for me is that the drop is out of focus. |

Ticked all the right boxes for a DPC ribbon (lemmon, water drop etc.) but it is not well executed although I do like the graduated yellow background. |
